Privacy

Last updated 6 November 2026

Runthe is a free personal project that generates running routes. There are no adverts, no analytics and no tracking cookies, and your data is never sold.

Who is responsible

Runthe is run by Yury Chistov, an individual based in the UK, who is the data controller. For anything about your data, email hello@runthe.uk.

Planning routes, with no account

To plan a route, your start point and distance are sent to Runthe's server on Google Cloud. They're used to work out your routes, and neither they nor the routes are saved or logged. The server's request logs record your IP address, your browser type and the time. These logs are kept for 30 days to keep the service running and to spot abuse, and are then deleted.

If you create an account

An account is only needed to save favourites. Runthe stores:

Only you can read your favourites. Runthe keeps this data until you delete it. The maintainer can technically access it to run the service, but doesn't look at it otherwise.

Why this is allowed

Under UK data protection law, account data is used to provide the service you asked for. Logs are kept because Runthe has a legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and working.

Who else is involved

Like any website, these services receive your IP address when your browser contacts them:

Some of these companies may handle data outside the UK, including in the United States, under their own legal safeguards.

Stored on your device

Runthe doesn't set tracking cookies. Your browser stores your signed-in session, a note that you have an account, your email address while a sign-in link is pending, and area names for your favourites. These are needed for the app to work, and the area names are cleared when you sign out.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, or ask for it to be corrected, deleted or restricted, and you can object to how it's used. Email hello@runthe.uk to do any of these.

To delete your account and favourites yourself, open the account menu and choose Delete account. They're removed straight away. Server logs expire within 30 days.

If you're unhappy with how your data is handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Children

Accounts are not intended for anyone under 13.
